The Nuclear Medicine Technologist in Europe - current status and future perspective.
نویسنده
چکیده
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist (NMT) is a health care professional who is able to undertake the whole range of nuclear medicine procedures. He/She is a part of a team of health care specialists which may include doctors, physicists, radiochemists, radiopharmacists, other clinical scientists, technologists, nurses and others who support and care for the patient during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, under the direction of a Nuclear Medicine Physician. The responsibilities of the nuclear medicine technologist are: — to maintain the highest possible standard of results in procedures carried out, which may include imaging, non imaging, labelling and therapeutic procedures; — to maintain the highest standards of patient care; — to deliver the lowest radiation dose to patients, staff and public that is compatible with valid results. The tasks that are carried out by the technologist are clearly under the direction and in support of a medical practitioner. It is in the interest of high quality healthcare that the NMT should be well trained and able to take responsibility for the provision of a high quality service to their head of the department. A well-designed set of competencies can assist in this by defining the tasks, standards and methods that are expected of well-trained NMT, working under the ultimate authority of a Nuclear Medicine Physician.

The current status and future of theranostic Copper-64 radiopharmaceuticals
Copper-64 was produced in large scales and high specific activities in late 1990s’ using compact cyclotrons based by 64Ni(p,n)64Cu reaction and many radiopharmaceuticals developed since then by various groups based on interesting physicochemical and nuclear properties of the radionuclide. The unique emission of beta particles as well as positron particles offers a spectacu...
متن کاملCurrent Diagnostic Status of Pheochromocytomaand Future Perspective: A Mini Review
Pheochromocytomas (PCCs) are rare neuroendocrine tumors. The current diagnostic tools are based on biochemistry and histopathology results, but heterogeneity of diagnostic markers, signs and symptoms of PCCs bring a lot of difficulties for these two current methods. Unfortunately microscopic understanding of PCCs is not adequate for its confident prognosis and management. There are data linking...
متن کاملThe application of unconventional PET tracers in nuclear medicine
The production and application of PET tracers has been a unique step in the progress of nuclear medicine in last two decades. The most important PET tracers include F-18, C-11 and N-13 radioisotopes and many nuclear medicine centers throughout the globe are using them. However some new tracers are under their way to the mass administration, currently being in th...
متن کاملHuman 3-D tissue models in radiation biology: current status and future perspectives
In this review, we discuss the use of a variety of 3-D models (particularly 3-D skin, lung, breast and endothelial) in radiobiological research and highlight the differences in responses compared to 2-D culturing conditions (monolayers). We review the characteristics of existing 3-D models and aim to point out the substantial advantages 3-D cultures provide for modern radiobiology. In particula...
متن کاملAn Introduction to Boron Neutron Therapy (BNCT): Current Status and Future Outlook
Boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) is based on the nuclear reaction, such that B-10 irradiated with low-energy thermal neutrons produces alpha particles with high linear energy transfer and lithium-7. Clinically, BNCT is used primarily for treatment of high-grade glioma or brain metastases from melanoma and, more recently, head, neck and liver cancers. Since reactors have long been used to pr...
